Philips Standardizes on Synopsys' Digital Front-End Design Platform for Advanced Process Technologies
Agreement Broadens Philips' Offerings, Enabling
Development of Complex Digital ICs
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 26, 2003--
Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS), the world leader in integrated
circuit (IC) design software, today announced that Philips (NYSE:PHG)
has signed a multi-year volume purchase agreement (VPA) with Synopsys
for its front-end design platform. Synopsys' platform will become a
design standard at Philips' semiconductor division, enabling it to
develop complex digital ICs leveraging best-in-class design
technology. Philips will use the technology for designs targeting its
CMOS 12 (0.13 micron), CMOS 090 (0.09 micron) processes and beyond.
"It is extremely important for a company the size of Philips'
semiconductor division to adopt and standardize on the best EDA tools
available," said Lambert van den Hoven, vice president and general
manager, Design Technology Group (DTG), Philips Semiconductors. "We
have worked with Synopsys tools for a number of years to design deep
sub-micron ICs in a variety of end devices. Standardizing on Synopsys'
front-end for digital designs allows Philips to realize great
efficiencies across its engineering community, and encourage common
best practices in IC design. Synopsys' tools and solutions enable us
to deliver the best products at the lowest risk."
"Partnering with Philips provides Synopsys with an opportunity to
participate in developing some very exciting chips, given Philips'
leading position in consumer electronics," said Aart de Geus, chairman
and chief executive officer, Synopsys. "With Philips' commitment to
Synopsys' front-end design platform, we will jointly deliver
state-of-the-art flows for 90 nanometers and below."
